Musical Estates

A successful application to 'Awards for All' supported six family events supported by 'local' music workshops. These took place in the more deprived wards in Milton Keynes and ran throughout January and February 2008. The 'local' music workshops saw local animateur Cathy Kelly and the Orchestra's Education and Outreach officer Jackie Allen visiting a variety of schools and family centres and working with children of all ages in each of the six chosen areas; Fishermead, Greenleys, Bradville, Netherfield, Wolverton and the Lakes Estate accompanied by a musician from the Orchestra. The theme of these events was all based on Birds - to link to the main family concert at Milton Keynes Theatre on Sunday 17th February.

Milton Keynes City Orchestra provided a ten piece ensemble, performing music composed on a Birds theme by Ian Tipping, for community concerts held on the 12th 13th and 14th February at Meadfurlong School, Langland Community School, Greenleys Middle School, Lakes Estate Community Centre, St Georges Church Wolverton, where over 400 people attended and Pepper Hill First School. A second application has now been successful and will secure a further four 'family outreach' concerts to take place later in 2008.
