Music for life

The Orchestra’s Music for Life programme takes music and music-making experiences beyond the concert stage and into your community – offering high quality, relevant musical experiences for all. The Orchestra is closely engaged with schools and colleges in the area and, in collaboration with people of all ages and abilities within the wider community, enables people to participate in and enjoy music making through creating projects.

In April and May our Musical Estates project continued with a ten piece ensemble from the Orchestra visiting Simpson, Conniburrow, Bletchley and Stantonbury to provide a performance of our ‘Birds’ concert to local children and their families.  These performances were supported by a series of workshops working with local music animateur Cathy Kelly supported by a musician from Milton Keynes City Orchestra.  This project was funded by Milton Keynes Community Foundation and we are grateful to them for their support.

In addition to our family working we have also been working in partnership with Stantonbury Campus, Lord Grey School and the Radcliffe on a composition project funded by our project partner ‘Creative Partnerships’.  The project has challenged students to compose their own piece of music taking inspiration from the concert programme you will hear this evening.  Many of you will have enjoyed the performance of their work in the Theatre foyer prior to tonight’s concert.  This project has provided a real life music experience for these students who have been finding out more about what life is like as a professional musician.  My thanks to the teachers and staff at Creative Partnerships for their support with this exciting project.
