Whilst Mendelssohn wrote his overture to the Shakespeare play at just 17 years old, his genius further introduced us all to Beethoven's Olympian violin concerto and gave Wagner's overture it's first life as a concert work. Now one of the highest rated violin concertos ever, Mendelssohn, as a conductor established the work by promoting a young and upcoming virtuoso violinist - today we are delighted to welcome Mayuko Katsumurawho who made her London debut with the work to great critical acclaim earlier this year. The folk songs and dances are both superb representations of the music the composers' native countries...... welcome to the High Sheriff.
Pre-concert talk with Adrian Boynton at 6.30pm in the auditorium
