"It has been singularly difficult to select the repertoire for my final concert as Principal Conductor of Milton Keynes City Orchestra. The Orchestra's playing of Mendelssohn (and of his close frined Sterndale Bennett) is widely renowned; and Beethoven 8 is always a treat for everybody. But I was determined to finish with English Music. Elgarians will probably disagree, but Vaughan Williams's fifth is for me the greatest British Symphony and one whose radiant spirituality is much needed in these trouble times. I hope that you will come, bring your friends and rejoice in the power of music to move and inspire."
