Review of Ghosts and Ghouls

Haunting apparitions seen at the theatre
Milton Keynes Theatre was transformed into a witches coven for an
entertaining and innovative concert from the City Orchestra called 'Ghosts
and Ghouls', appropriate for the weekend following Hallowe'en. A large
audience, with a substantial number of children wearing fancy dress, heard
music depicting supernatural beings, including witches, warlocks, and
wizards. Popular works such as The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Night on a Bare
Mountain and Hansel and Gretel were joined by less well-known pieces,
including the scary Noon Witch by Dvorak. Philippa Tipper and Allan Davies
added a deliciously spine-tingling tale in three parts that certainly kept
the young audience rapt. Pumpkins and bats decorated the theatre and the
students from Eaton Mill School, working with Bill Billings, had produced
some marvellous drawings of frightening creatures. Prizes were given for
the best costumes worn by under -12 -year -olds with the top prize going to
Mitchell as a werewolf. This was music presented in a most satisfactory
way for youngsters and their parents. Hilary Davan Wetton and his team are
to be congratulated for a fun concert.
