Amateur and professional musicians in concert

Last Sunday local young musicians from Milton Keynes Music Centre joined the professional orchestra in residence at the Theatre, the Milton Keynes City Orchestra, in a captivating performance of Vaughan William’s Concerto Grosso.  Each pair of players in the combined orchestra comprised a youngster from the Centre and a professional.  It was the experience of a lifetime for these enthusiastic players and the capacity audience enjoyed playing that showed how lucky Milton Keynes has such talent on tap.  Before the performance conductor Hilary Davan Wetton praised the work of the Centre and pointed out that three of its ‘graduates’ regularly play professionally with the Orchestra.  Click here to see photographs from rehearsals.

Also in the concert, a member of the City Orchestra, clarinettist Nicholas Cox, gave a world class performance of Mozart ’s popular clarinet concerto, playing an instrument with another local connection.  The basset clarinet used was constructed and provided by Yamaha who have their British base in Milton Keynes .
