Fingal, the legendary Celtic hero, and Napoleon, the dedicatee of Beethoven’s Eroica symphony provide the inspiration for this concert of favourite works from the Romantic era. Violinist So-Ock Kim makes a welcome return to Milton Keynes to play one of the most demanding, and yet one of the most popular, concertos ever written.

Thirty years ago Hilary Davan Wetton had a dream of creating a top quality professional orchestra in the newly created Milton Keynes. The MKCO quickly established itself as a group that could be favourably compared with any other orchestra in the country. In this birthday concert, Wetton conducts three of the great showpieces for orchestra from the past two hundred years. Nikolai Demidenko has a strong following in the region and is sure to bring his brilliant insight to what is one of the greatest piano concertos ever written.

For Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week, the MKCO and Milton Keynes Chorale join together in one of the greatest of all works inspired by religion. Bach’s setting of St. John’s transcendent story of the first Holy Week. In this performance the drama of the passion story will be enhanced by a semi-staged presentation which will add an extra dimension to an unforgettable experience.
