So-Ock Kim

So-Ock Kim - Click for larger pictureSo Ock-Kim was born in Seoul in July 1982 and moved to London at the age of three. She started piano lessons at the age of five and the violin at the age of six. At eight she made her first appearance on BBC TV and at nine played the finale of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto on two occasions at the Royal Festival Hall, since when she has performed concertos and given recitals all over the UK, in France, Spain, Germany, Scandanavia, Yugoslavia, Italy,Belgium, Israel, Canada, Korea and Japan. 

Orchestras she has performed with include The London Symphony, Turin Philharmonic,The English Sinfonia, Britten Symphonia, KBS Symphony and Sofia Philharmonic.

At fifteen So-Ock won the Gold Medal in the Shell/LSO competition, and made the first of many appearances at the Wigmore Hall. In 2001 she appeared in the Park Lane Group’s Purcell Room series to enormous critical acclaim, She gave a recital at the Auditorium de Louvre in Paris which was broadcast on radio and televised world wide. The same year she gave the inaugural recital in the Philharmonia’s new series in the Royal Festival Hall. In 2002 she was selected for representation by the Young Concet Artists’ Trust who also represent the Emporer Piano Trio of which she is a member. She is a keen participant of chamber music and has been invited to the International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove wher she took part in their National Tour which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

So-Ock plays a 1666 Antonius Stradivarius kindly loaned to her by an anonymous donor. She has also received invaluable assistance from the Royal Philharmonic Society,Musicians’ Benevolent Fund,Martin Musical Fund and the Hattori Foundation. She has been studying with David Takeno since 1994 and is a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
