Press Release Number 3
Milton Keynes City Orchestra
Lottery Funding Success!
Milton Keynes City Orchestra is delighted to announce its success in being awarded in excess of £32,000 of Lottery funding support from Arts Council England, South East. This support will enable the city’s own professional orchestra to undertake further artistic and organisation development during the 2005 – 2006 season. The Orchestra is now proud to unveil details of its plans for an exciting new season...
Under the baton of founder and Artistic Director Hilary Davan Wetton, the Orchestra will continue to work in partnership with Milton Keynes Theatre presenting some of the finest works for Orchestra – highlights include Holst’s Planet Suite, Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique and a tribute to Mozart celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of this genius. The Orchestra will be expanding its local activities to include a series of three concerts at Woburn Church , for Christmas, Spring and in Summer a collaboration with the Danesborough Chorus. The Orchestra also makes a welcome return to the recently refurbished Stantonbury Campus Theatre – where it all started over 30 years ago - with a programme of afternoon concerts especially for young people and their families. The highly acclaimed Sian Edwards continues to excel in her position as our Principal Guest Conductor, both on stage and participating in education activities.
Off stage, the Orchestra will continue to develop its education and outreach activities within the community. This new season will include small ensembles from the Orchestra performing in locations in and around Milton Keynes hospital, concerts for schools, and a large-scale music theatre project for young people based on the Magic Flute.
Booking for all events is now available from Milton Keynes City Orchestra on 01908 558311.
