The Lark Ascending is undoubtedly one of the most popular pieces in the classical repertoire. Vaughan Williams is said to have composed it while watching British troops embarking for France at the start of World War 1, so it is fitting that its meditational qualities should occupy our senses as the centenary of the end of that war is commemorated.
To perform The Lark Ascending and play Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo capriccioso we welcome the young Korean violinist Yoon-Hee Kim, a fast-rising star.
The programme concludes with Beethoven’s 7th symphony. Popular since its first performance in 1813 it features, to memorable effect, on the soundtrack of the 2010 film The King’s Speech.Book Tickets Now
