Milton Keynes City Orchestra (MKCO) has launched its 2015-16 season, presenting an exciting line-up of internationally renowned soloists to Milton Keynes, under the baton of sensational Music Director and Principal Conductor, Damian Iorio.

Following huge accolades for his first MKCO season, Damian has designed the latest season to showcase the brilliance of the musicians and exceptional performances that engaged and delighted so many music lovers last season.

The opening concert is on 11th October at Milton Keynes Theatre, featuring cellist Jamie Walton playing Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1. Jamie wowed audiences last season at The Venue with an epic debut playing Saint-Saens Cello Concerto No.1. This first programme is also packed with popular favourites; Khachaturian adagio from Spartacus, Bernstein’s West Side Story Symphonic Dances and Ravel’s Bolero as a finale.

Damian has pulled in some great talent from around the world to perform in MK.  Violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, back again from her debut with MKCO in 2013 and three great pianists, Giullio Biddau, Vitaly Pisarenko and Pavel Kolesnikov.

Into the season, Damian has chosen a wide ranging repertoire of themed programmes, influenced by music written for theatre and films, as well as sampling a taste of Italy and a fine Tchaikovsky gala towards the end of the season. We are also delighted to say that Proms in Campbell Park will be back in August 2016.

Music Director, Damian Iorio said: “I’m thrilled to be back for my second season in MK. The orchestra is an important part of cultural life here and I have been greatly encouraged by the warm welcome I have received from audiences and our Patrons and supporters. I’m looking forward to working with our wonderful MKCO musicians as we move forward with increased audiences showing great appreciation for our work.”

Chairman, Marian Livingstone added: “It is marvellous that Damian is working with us to create a sustainable and successful future for MKCO. We are all immensely proud of our achievements over the last two years to modernise and enhance the performance of this exceptional orchestra and keep classical music accessible for all to enjoy in MK.”
