Richard Wainwright
Richard Wainwright studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Derek Taylor. During his time there, he won the Merewether Horn Prize and was awarded a scholarship to continue his studies. Richard has a busy and varied freelance career combining West End shows, chamber music, orchestral and solo playing. He performs with many of the leading London Symphony Orchestras, and is in particular demand with chamber orchestras often playing principal. Recent appearances have been with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Camerata of Ireland. Richard has been a member of the European Union Chamber Orchestra for eight years. He has toured extensively to South America, the Middle and Far East and South Africa, often playing solo repertoire. Richard enjoys chamber music and exploring less well known repertoire for horn. Recent projects include performances of Beethoven’s Sextet, Strauss Tr1 Evlenspeigel and more unusually, Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony arranged for ten instruments. Solo performances have included Mozart’s 3rd and 4th concertos, Strauss’s First Concerto, Telemann and Vivaldi concertos, the Britten Serenade for tenor, horn and strings and the Sieber Nocturne. Richard has also made several solo recordings including, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for four wind soloists with the Belmont ensemble of London. Last year he finished an extensive project of recording many solo CDs for childrem with Warner Brothers. These included film tracks of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Richard was recently awarded an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for distinguishing himself in the music profession and for making a significant contribution in his chamber music field.
