Profile: Principal Trumpet of Milton Keynes City Orchestra

Tim Hawes started his career aged 18 with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal. Since then he has performed, recorded and toured with virtually all the major orchestras in London and the United Kingdom. He was a member of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and the Wallace Collection and has toured Japan and the USA with London Brass.

As a soloist , Tim  has performed and broadcast  and given frequent masterclasses in Russia, Japan, Israel, South Africa, USA and many parts of Europe. The tours of Japan with I Fiamingi and the Middle East  with The Israel Chamber Orchestra included performances of the Brandenburg concerto no. 2.

Tim is principal trumpet with several  orchestras including the Garsington Opera Orchestra with whom he attracted critical acclaim during the 2011 season for his obligato playing in Vivaldi’s Opera ‘ la verita in cimento’

He has just recorded a television programme with Rick Wakemann and Aled  Jones due for broadcast  next year. Apart from his freelance activities, Tim is a member of the orchestra for the London production of Les Miserables. His solo album ‘ The Last Rose of Summer ‘  is being played regularly on BBC radio .

Most people’s careers have a number of quirky  events. For Tim these include a nano second appearance as a jazz musician in the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and as the hapless Salvation Army cornet player in Mr. Beans Christmas Special

Tim taught trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music junior department from September 2000 to June 2010 and continues to examine and adjudicate.

He has been the principal trumpet with Milton Keynes City Orchestra since 2000.
